At Monmouth Scientific, we are committed to providing solutions that foster a clean and sustainable environment. Our key innovation is the use of recirculating technology, enhanced by activated carbon and HEPA filtration.

UNDERSTANDING RECIRCULATING TECHNOLOGY

Recirculating technology involves the continuous movement of air through a filtration unit. Unlike traditional systems that expel air to the outside environment, recirculating systems clean and reuse the indoor air. This approach offers several advantages:

  •   Environmental Impact: Minimising the expulsion of conditioned air decreases the carbon footprint of a facility.
  • Energy Efficiency: Recirculating systems are more energy efficient as they reduce the need for heating or cooling external air.
  •   Cost Savings: Lower energy consumption translates to reduced operational costs.

THE ROLE OF FILTRATION

Benefits of activated carbon filters: Activated carbon has been processed to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions.

It is highly effective at trapping gases, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and odours, which are often the most challenging pollutants to remove from the air.

  • High adsorption capacity: Activated carbon can trap a wide range of chemicals and pollutants, making it highly versatile.
  • Chemical filtration: It can adsorb harmful gases and VOCs, which are not captured by other types of filters.
  • Odor removal: It is particularly effective at removing unpleasant odours from the air, ensuring a more pleasant indoor environment.

Monmouth Scientific solutions utilising activated carbon filters:

  •   Recirculating Fume Cupboards
  •   Hybrid Fume Cupboards
  •   Chemical Storage Cabinets
  •   Chemical Dispensing Stations
  • Downflow Benching

Advantages of HEPA filters: HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are designed to capture 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns in diameter. This includes dust, pollen, mould, bacteria, and other airborne particles. HEPA filters are a cornerstone in achieving clean air standards in various settings, from hospitals, to research labs and industrial cleanrooms.

  •   Superior particle removal: HEPA filters are unmatched in their ability to remove tiny particles from the air, ensuring a clean and sterile workspace, ideal for sensitive or intricate applications.
  • Allergen reduction: By capturing allergens such as pollen and dust, HEPA filters can significantly improve indoor air quality for a healthy environment.
  • Durability and reliability: HEPA filters are known for their long lifespan and consistent performance, making them a reliable choice for continuous air purification.

Monmouth Scientific solutions utilising HEPA filters:

  •   Modular Cleanrooms
  •   Laminar Flow Cabinets
  •   Biological Safety Cabinets
  •   Powder Containment Cabinets
  •   PCR Cabinets

CONCLUSION

At Monmouth Scientific, our commitment to creating a clean and sustainable environment drives us to innovate and improve our air purification solutions continually. Recirculating technology, enhanced with Activated Carbon and HEPA filtration, offers a robust, efficient, and sustainable approach to maintaining high air quality standards.

By integrating these advanced technologies, we not only protect the health and well-being of individuals but also contribute to the global effort to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.

CASE STUDY

Monmouth Scientific Supports High Precision Tool Manufacturer with Recirculating Fume Cupboards.

  •   Customer: Polymermedics, Saint Austell, Cornwall, England
  •   Solution: Circulaire® PRO Recirculating Fume Cupboard CTP1100
  • Application: High Precision Dental Tool Manufacture

Overview

Polymermedics, a technical injection moulder based in Cornwall, specialises in producing high-precision plastic components and assemblies for the medical, hygiene, and pharmaceutical industries. To enhance their capabilities and safety, they aimed to create a clean environment for mixing chemicals used in producing dental cores for root canal treatments. Previously, they only manufactured the plastic component of the process.

Our Solution

To bring the entire process in-house, Production Manager Ian Hagley approached Monmouth Scientific for a solution. Monmouth Scientific proposed and installed four 1100mm wide Circulaire® PRO Recirculating Fume Cupboards in Polymermedics’ new cleanroom. Each unit is designated for specific manufacturing areas, ensuring safety and precision.

Key Features

  •   Advanced Air Filtration Technology: The fume cupboards feature advanced air filtration systems and ultra-deep Activated Carbon filters for maximum fume filtration efficiency.
  • Non-Ducted, Eco-Friendly Design: The units can be installed without external ducting, thanks to advanced carbon technology. They recirculate clean air back into the laboratory, significantly reducing environmental impact.
  • Enhanced Safety: Airflow is directed inward to prevent aerosols from escaping the controlled working area, ensuring a safe environment for staff.
  • User-Friendly Controls: Equipped with an automatic sliding safety sash, Visionaire® Touchscreen Control System, and Eco-Operation mode, these units offer seamless integration with the laboratory. The PIN-controlled supervisor settings and mutable alarms enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Impact and Benefits

  •   Enhanced Safety and Cleanliness: The Circulaire® PRO Recirculating Fume Cupboards significantly improve the safety and cleanliness of the chemical mixing process. The advanced filtration technology ensures that all contaminated particles are removed, providing a clean and safe working environment for the staff.
  • Environmental Benefits: By recirculating clean air back into the laboratory, the non-ducted solution is more environmentally friendly than traditional ducted systems. This approach reduces the impact of exhausting fumes into the outside atmosphere, aligning with environmental sustainability goals.
  • Operational Efficiency: The new system allows Polymermedics to bring the entire dental core production process in-house, enhancing capabilities and streamlining operations. The user-friendly controls and integrated safety features ensure efficient and safe operation, reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
  •   Economic Advantages: Reducing the need for external ducting and lowering environmental impact translates into cost savings for Polymermedics. The advanced filtration system also extends the lifespan of the equipment, providing long-term economic benefits.

The collaboration between Monmouth Scientific and Polymermedics has successfully enhanced the precision and safety of the company’s manufacturing processes.

The installation of Circulaire® PRO Recirculating Fume Cupboards not only meets Polymermedics’ immediate needs but also offers substantial long-term benefits in terms of safety, environmental impact, operational efficiency, and cost savings.
