Room temperature cell preservation technology

Amsbio announce a new partnership with Atelerix to introduce its patented hydrogel technology for the room-temperature storage and transportation of living cells, tissues, organoids and viruses.

Preserving cell functionality during storage and transportation is challenging for cell-based therapies as cryopreservation methods can compromise cell viability and functionality. The novel hypothermic hydrogel technology, available from Amsbio, offers a revolutionary alternative, addressing many of the issues associated with cryopreservation.

This seaweed-derived hydrogel forms a protective shield around cells. It keeps them stable and healthy outside of ultra-cold freezers letting you store and ship delicate biological samples at room temperature without freezing. Using this exceptional proprietary hydrogel – over 90% of cells remain viable and maintain key sample characteristics such as viability, phenotype, morphology and function in supplier-tested workflows.

Eliminating the need for expensive liquid nitrogen tanks, ultra-low freezers or costly dry ice shipping not only has huge economic benefits but it also cuts down on energy use and carbon emissions.

Cells preserved using this hypothermic hydrogel technology stay ready to use at room temperature for days or up to two weeks. No longer do you have to rush processing right after a sample is thawed.

Hydrogel availability in dedicated formulations and scalable formats allows optimised selection according to sample type, volume, plate format and downstream application.
